Winthrop’s Taj mahal defies common sense

mud, water and gunk. In the case of Winthrop’s slough hole, it’s an area off Route 202 where certain human beasts otherwise known as political spendthrifts wish to build an emergency services building to house their self-serving confederates. The building itself, if built, will be known as the local Taj Mahal.

Here are a few additional facts regarding Winthrop’s slough hole. Because of the five-acre, 8 to 16-foot depression, the “experts” say it will cost nearly a half million dollars just to fill in the gulch to the level of the road before any construction can begin. The Maine Department of Transportation has recently done a traffic study at this particular site because it is considered to be major route at a major intersection. On an average day, 10,300 vehicles pass this site going in an easterly direction as 10,280 vehicles pass this site in a westerly direction, with approximately 7,500 of these vehicles crossing over the intersection. Anyone who has driven westerly by this intersection in the late afternoon knows that you could not possibly find a worse site in all of Winthrop.

It is the common sense of the past that caused our existing emergency services buildings to be built downtown. And common sense today should mandate that Winthrop’s slough hole remain a slough hole and for a few of Winthrop’s Taj Mahalians to take a hike.
