The Taj Mahal represents beauty, architecture, heritage and passion like no other structure. Speaking of the new seven wonders competition, victory still appears to be vague, as the most recent rankings reveal that the Taj is slipping. But, that is in no way killing the enthusiasm of the Amdavadis in spreading the word and ‘Vote for Taj’ campaign.
On Sunday, members of the Unami Group of Organisers alongwith various other people, had it upon themselves to spread the word. Janakraj Agrawal, member of the group, said, “I think it deserves to win, for it is one of the most beautiful monuments in the world, perfectly symmetrical and, well, it’s in India. The fact that such perfection is achieved without the use of technology is what makes the Taj Mahal a wonder.”
He further said, “A campaign rally, with around 100 students, went from Ravishankar Raval Kala Bhavan in Law Garden to Income Tax Cross Roads spreading awareness among the people that Taj is an important part of our country’s heritage.” He added, “In our childhood, we were often to believe that the Taj is one of the world’s wonders. Thus, to make this fantasy come true, we launched the ‘Vote for Taj’ campaign through the rally.”
And that’s not the end. There were also a motorbike rally, paintings by Punilrajsinh Solanki and drawing competition on the Taj by the students of CN Fine Arts College. Solanki, a student and painter, said, “Around 60 students participated in the competition. Taj was painted in different colours but the common thing about the paintings showed that the Taj is considered a pride of India.”
Painter Akhtar Ahmed Tailor, who designed the Taj in rangoli, said, “Taj deserves to be called a ‘wonder’ for it’s truly inspiring and boasts of great craftsmanship. It is a unique creation which cannot be repeated.”
Ahmedabad city Mayor Amit Shah made an emotive appeal to citizens to vote liberally in favour of the Taj Mahal to ensure that this majestic marble monument gets it deserving place in the world’s wonder list.
He said, “I appeal to Indians and those settled abroad to vote wholeheartedly in favour of the medieval monument. It will be a great tribute to the Taj, which richly deserves to be in the list of the New Seven Wonders.”
