Sadhus in Varanasi joined the campaign to boost the Taj Mahal’s chances of making it to the new seven wonders of the world list. With matted hair, dusty bodies and some clad in saffron robes, hundreds of ascetics under Akhil Bharatiya Dharam Sangh took out a march from Durga Kund to Assi Ghat holding a banner urging people to vote for the Taj. They were seen distributing pamphlets, asking passers-by to join the campaign for recognition of the 17 century Mughal architectural marvel among the Seven Wonders of the World. Sangh secretary Mr Jag Jitan Pandey said they would ask every one to vote vigorously through SMS or online to get the “monument of love” at Agra its due acknowledgement. He said the organisation would provide free Internet facilities at its office from 4 to 6 July to enable people to cast their votes online.
